The rank of Eagle Scout is one of the most prestigious achievements one can reach as a youth in Scouting. Less than 5 percent of all Boy Scouts achieve Eagle. Eagle Scouts promote integrity, duty, and constant personal growth.
NOTE: Make sure that your Eagle binder and workbook is the most recent version when submitting your Eagle application.
- 1. Confirm all requirements have been completed: Merit Badges, Service Project, active participation, position of responsibility, etc. Note: Scoutmaster Conference must occur before the 18th birthday.
- 2. Eagle Rank requirements can be found on Scouting.org > Programs > Scouts BSA > Advancement & Awards Overview (scroll to middle of page) > Current Eagle Rank Requirements
- 3. While a Life Scout, plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or your community.
-
a. The project must benefit an organization other than Scouting America.
-
b. A project proposal must be approved by the organization benefiting from the effort, your unit leader and unit committee, and the council or district before you start.
-
c. You must use the current Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook in meeting this requirement.
-
4. The most current Project Workbook form must be used. This workbook shows the project proposal was approved ahead of time, and then properly accepted by all parties. Find on Scouting.org > Resources (scroll to middle of page) > Rank Advancement Forms > Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook
- 5. The Scout must complete the official Eagle Scout Rank application. No other form or application method is permitted. It is found at Scouting.org > Resources (scroll to middle of page) > Rank Advancement Forms > Eagle Scout Application
- 6. The Eagle Scout Rank application and workbook must be submitted in a 3-ring notebook to keep all papers and pictures together and organized. Careful review and thorough proofing will prevent delays. Remember, everything is verified by the local council; discrepancies and errors could lead to a binder being delayed.
Pay special attention to the following red-flag items when completing your application:
- A. Dates: Joining, birth, First Class through Life boards of review, all merit badges, positions of responsibility with “From” and “To” starting after the Life Scout board of review. Eagle service project final signature, Scoutmaster (unit Leader) conference, Eagle board of review, and other signatures called for below.
- B. Signatures: Applicant, unit leader, and unit committee chair. *Remaining signatures come later.
- C. References: Must list six (or five if not employed). If not affiliated with an organized religion, then the parent or guardian provides this reference. (5) Reference letters are attached along with envelopes. Can make copies if more are needed. Reference letters
- MUST be mailed to council.
- D. Merit Badges: Dates as mentioned above; check the unit number in which each badge was earned. Attach the Application for Alternate Eagle Scout Rank Merit Badges, if applicable.
- E. Position of Responsibility: While a Life Scout, serve actively for a period of six months in one or more qualifying positions. See application for accepted positions.
- F. Inside Binder: Remember to include service project workbook, statement of ambitions and life purpose (which includes positions, honors, and awards if applicable) and photographs of project.
