McConnell Merit Badges

Classes are limited to 10 scouts per session.  Refer to general instructions below to be prepared for your workshops! Please note this calendar is subject to change. 

General Instructions:

  1. Each Scout must bring:
    • Blue card signed by their Unit Leader for each Merit Badge
    • Appropriate Merit Badge Pamphlet
    • Pen, paper, and all other material required for the specific Merit Badge.
  2. Scouts must bring appropriate proof of completion of all prerequisites and be prepared to discuss, report, and demonstrate on all prerequisites.

 

Emergency Preparedness Prerequisites

 

1 - Show proof that the Scout earned the First Aid MB (Don't have it, NO Emergency Preparedness MB, only a partial. Welcome to attend)

2b - Make a chart, spreadsheet, or graph for ten emergency situations including the five required on

2c - Have a family meeting to have or get an emergency kit, make a plan, and instruct them on the situations in 2b. Will discuss the family responses and share the family emergency plan.

6b - Identify the local government or community agencies that normally handles and prepares for local emergencies. Be ready to explain either how the NIMS/ICE can assist a Scout troop when responding to a disaster OR how a group of Scouts could volunteer to help in the event of an emergency

6c - Find out who is the local community's emergency management director and learn what this person does to prevent, protect, mitigate, respond to, and recover from emergency situations in their community. Be prepared to discuss this information with the counselor utilizing the information learned in requirement 2b.

7a - Show proof that the Scout participated in am emergency service project, either real or practice, with Scout unit or community agency

7b - Prepare a written plan for mobilizing the Scout's troop when needed. If there is already a plan, review it and explain it. Need to tell the Scout's role in making it work. Bring the plan to the counselor.

8b - Prepare a personal emergency service pack for mobilization and prepare a family emergency kit (suitcase or waterproof box) for use in case of an emergency evacuation. Bring the emergency service pack and a photo of the family emergency kit. Be ready to explain their contents and uses.

9b - Review or prepare a family escape plan in case of a fire. Bring it and be prepared to explain it.

  1. Each Scout must complete all prerequisites before class. All written work including worksheets and drawings must be brought to class.  To be unprepared is not fair to those who have prepared and to the Counselors reviewing the subjects.  Remember, Merit Badges are EARNED, not given out!
  2. Lunch will be provided for Scouts taking Merit Badge, $5 for all others.
